Doel van de cursus (alleen in het Engels beschikbaar)

To teach the students approaches:

  • to learn system's thinking and modelling;
  • to analyse requirements for information systems;
  • to map enterprise requirements to a design;
  • to understand the link between information systems and business processes;
  • to learn modeling and analysing the dynamics of automated business systems.


Inhoud van de cursus (alleen in het Engels beschikbaar)

The course covers 3 major components: formalization of workflows as petri nets, the unified modeling language, and structured analysis and design. In more details the list of topics is as follows:

  • Introduction: definitions, systems vs subsystems, modeling vs design;
  • Workflow Modeling: relation of workflows to information systems, classical petri nets, coloured petri nets, workflow languages;
  • UML: class diagrams, activity diagrams, use cases, state diagrams, model driven architecture, object-constraint language;
  • Structured Analysis and Design: event list, data flow diagrams, data dictionary, mapping event lists to functional system specifications;
