Objectives

This course offers an overview of ways in which text and communication is studied in the bachelor and master program CIW in Tilburg. The learning goals are the following:

  • The student is able to read, analyse and interpret academic literature in the field of text and communication.
  • The student is able to understand how the field of text and communication is subdivided in disciplines and research areas
  • The student is able to explain the theoretical and societal relevance of these research areas.
  • The student is able to understand, explain and assess the basic concepts, research questions and methodologies of these research areas.
  • The student is able to apply this knowledge in different communicative contexts.
  • The student gains insight in the way in which new technologies can be used to analyze text. 
  • The student is able to explain relevant differences between tracks in the TiU CIW program 


Contents

Each week is concentrated on one particular perspective on Text and Communication in the CIW program. Students are asked to prepare each lecture by reading an article connected to that perspective. Connected to the lectures, students are asked to prepare an assignment.
